We are very pleased to present you with the Fireshade™ lead less underglaze palette. This printed palette simulates our line of sixty-five versatile underglazes. These pigment-rich lead less underglazes may be used for a variety of ceramic products processed within a wide range of temperatures. The product of years of development with input from ceramic engineers, industry members and artisans, these Fireshade™ underglazes are made with the finest leadless materials, under the closest industry specifications, and with the most delicate, experienced care. All Fireshade TM underglazes are finely ground over time in water-based media to ensure even consistency.
Fireshade™ . underglazes and other ceramic decorating products are available in pint and gallon units for use by ceramic professionals.
Fired underglaze colors may vary due to differences in clay body, underglaze application, covering glaze, firing temperature and kiln type and atmosphere. The user should test all underglazes with user-specific materials, applications, processing techniques and firing conditions prior to use in production.
Fireshade™ underglazes may be used on greenware or bisque and require firing to a minimum temperature of a witness cone 06. Optimum color brilliance can be expected under oxidation firing conditions within a temperature range of cone 06 to cone 1. Certain underglaze colors are weaker when fired to higher temperatures; however, many may be successfully used in middle and higher ranges up to cone lQ.
The fired color of any underglaze is modified by thermal-chemical reactions between the underglaze color components, clay body and particular covering glaze used. Miles Ceramic Color also produces covering glazes specially formulated to react favorably with Fireshade™ underglazes. Before using Fireshade™ underglazes in production, final fired underglaze color should be determined through test processing with the covering glaze selected under user-specific production conditions.
Underglaze colors are generally stronger and more brilliant when used with a lead-bearing covering glaze and more subdued when used with a leadless covering glaze.
Miles Ceramic Color does not recommend the use of lead-bearing covering glazes for food or beverage service ware.
If a covering glaze containing lead is used on food or beverage service ware, State and Federal laws require that the finished ware be tested regularly for lead release in order to maintain compliance with State and Federal laws which limit the legally permissible release of lead from ceramic surfaces which come into contact with food or beverage. Fired underglazes may be used for a decorative matte surface without a protective covering glaze; however, Miles Ceramic Color does not recommend such use for food contact surfaces.
